A Bad Choice
Heading out to the bars is a favorite activity of many individuals. And, there is nothing wrong with having a couple of drinks if you are a responsible adult. The problem comes in when you want to go home. Are you sober enough to drive? Do you have a sober driver? All of these things should be considered and they should be considered before you ever have that first swig of beer or other alcoholic beverage. The reason why is that if you don’t have a way of getting home before you start drinking it is unlikely you will just happen upon one during your night out.
If you realize this before you start drinking then you can make some calls and try to arrange for a sober driver or a ride home at the end of the night. Of course, you can always take a cab home but you need to call and make sure a cab service is available at the time of night you want to leave. All of these details should be handled before you begin drinking to ensure that you arrive home safely at the end of the night.
It might seem like a hassle to line up a sober driver when all you want to do is have a couple of drinks with your buddies, but it is really important to do so before you start drinking. The reason why is that after you begin drinking your reasoning goes out the window. You start to think that you really are ok to drive, even though you are not, and don’t see the need to call a cab, a friend, or anyone else to take you home because you can do so yourself. This scenario is played out all too often on the highways of America. The lucky ones make it home ok or just receive a DUI. The unlucky ones end up having wrecks and injuring themselves and others. The worst case scenario is an accident that occurs and people die, innocent people.
So, the next time you are considering having a drink or two with friends consider what is most important. Leaving your car at a parking deck and taking a cab home safely or deciding to drive under the influence and receiving a DUI, having a wreck, and possibly changing your life or the lives of others forever. It’s not such a hard decision to make when you realize all that is at stake. So, please, before you have those drinks with a few friends make sure that you have a safe way of getting home. Otherwise, you are putting your life and the lives of others in danger.
